The JGSDF Type 96 Wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier Type B Scale Model Kit from Aoshima is a contemporary Japanese military vehicle. Initial prototypes were created in the early 1990s and production has continued since 1996, with an estimated 365 units in use as of 2014. A single Mitsubishi 6D40 engine with a 360 HP output provides the vehicle's power. It comes equipped with a 40mm Type 96 automatic grenade launcher and a 12.7mm M2HB machine gun. Developed by Komatsu for the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, the Type 96 WAPC can carry up to eight troops and is protected by steel armor against small arms and artillery. It boasts exceptional maneuverability and mobility on both on and off-road terrain, with a maximum speed of 100 km/h. The vehicle also features advanced electronic equipment and a battlefield management system.
